Cruising Through Northern California

With the whole family here we decided it would be fun to see more of the countryside. Medford is quite close to so many attractions. We rented a mini van and headed toward the California coast. The drive is so beautiful, along the way we drove around Redwoods National Park. The trees are so huge it is really so amazing to see them. We took a side road that was gravel and dirt that ran between highway 199 and Crescent City. We then drove on highway 101 down to Kalamath along the coast.

The Trees of Mystery had 50 ft statues of Paul Bunyon and Babe. Now who in the world makes a 50 ft statue of a bull that is anatomically correct. Jack was very careful when taking pictures to not show any of the bull's private 20ft parts. The weather was so wonderful. We were expecting it to be a little cloudy and cold but we lucked out and got sunny and about 75 degrees. We had a great time listening to music, singing and talking. Adam loved playing "try to get me" with the waves.

On the way home Jack decided that we would take a "short-cut". We took a wrong turn that took us from sea level to about 5,000 feet on very narrow and steep roads. We enjoyed it but Laura was a little nervous on those windy roads. We are relieved to say that the road did finally wind up where we wanted to be so it turned out being a good choice.
